A viral infection is just what it says -- it's when your body has been infected by a virus.

The common cold (rhinovirus) and influenza are both examples of a viral infection.

Viral infections CAN NOT be treated with antibiotics. Antiobiotics kill bacteria. Therefore, antibiotics only work for bacterial infections. Pneumonia is an example of a bacterial infection.
