Q: Is swine flu diagnosed by a blood test??

my son went to the hospital yesterday for severe diahheria (he is an adult 40 yrs old) they gave him fluids IV and took a blood test.. said he had the flue. No specific kind of flu, just "the fle"  In the blood work would they be able to rule out swine flu??  would appreciate your reply.  They gave him imodium, and prescriptions for some medicine, which he says he hasnt filled yet.
