New med may help asthmatics ward off the common cold

For many asthmatics, getting the common cold can trigger serious asthma symptoms, and for years experts have not known why. But a new study has found that asthma patients appear to be missing two key proteins that may help keep the common cold--and asthma symptoms--at bay. Researchers plan to begin a clinical trial of a new medication that will deliver one of these missing proteins through an inhaler and reduce the risks asthma patients face because of the common cold.
