Many asthmatics skip the flu shot

Asthmatics who get the flu have a higher risk of developing complications such as pneumonia, but many with the disease skip the yearly flu shot. A study of 173,000 adults found that those over the age of 50 were more likely to get a flu shot than patients between the ages of 18 and 49. But experts warn that newer strains of the flu (including swine flu) appear to hit young people the hardest. Health care professionals urge asthma patients to talk to their doctor about getting vaccinated in the late summer or early fall.  Read full story >
