Cat catches H1N1 flu from owners

A cat in Iowa has become the first of its species to test positive for the H1N1 flu virus. State health officials say the 13-year-old cat appears to have caught the virus from someone in the house who was ill with the H1N1 flu. There were no indications that it passed the virus to anyone else in the residence, including the other household pets. Both the cat and the family members recovered. The H1N1 virus previously has been reported in humans, pigs, birds, and ferrets, so experts did not find the transmission to a cat a surprise.  Read full story >
