In COPD and Depression – Part I: Who, Me? we met Jerry at a routine doctor’s office visit… “I’m fighting for every breath here, doc. I can’t do anything I used to. I was a strong guy, a firefighter for goodness sake. Now I can barely carry my garden hose. I can&r...

This article is so "right on"...and it is not a "one cure fits all....once and for all" type of affliction.  Just accept that just like your COPD will not go away, neither will your depression.  Embrace it rather than letting it smother you.  Hugs are good - but not the depression hugs!  They suffocate if you let them.

We all will have good days and bad days...with or without COPD.  When we are in a "bad day" cycle that arch enemy depression jumps in to visit and wants to move in.  We have to show it the door and say "glad you came to remind me how well I was doing without you, and now you can go away.  Thanks for the reminder!"

These were very good suggestions of activities and thoughts to help with depression.

Hello Peg,

Thanks for your comment.

I love your take on it -- "When we are in a "bad day" cycle that arch enemy depression jumps in to visit and wants to move in.  We have to show it the door and say "glad you came to remind me how well I was doing without you, and now you can go away.  Thanks for the reminder!""

What a wonderful, positive....and humorous way to cope with such a nasty monster! Thanks again! I'm sure this will help many COPD'ers be armed and ready next time he comes along.

Jane.
