I live in Honduras and there are no pulminary rehab programs available that I am aware of. Is there ant DIY info available anywhere?
Dear Ceiba,
I'm sorry for the long delay in responding.
There is no substitute for going into a center and working with the rehab staff face to face, but here are a couple of things to help you start on doing a DIY Pulmonary Rehab. **** As always, check with your doctor before starting any exercise.
Go to Amazon and type "Sit and Be Fit COPD" in the search box. There you'll find a brand new, excellent video program that can be done even by people who are extremely limited.
Also, go to "Copdfoundation.org" and you'll find the phone number to call the "Info line" where you can talk with knowledgeable people with COPD. They are a wealth of knowledge and support.
That, along with the great information here on Health Central should help. Finally, you can check out the information and a community forum at http://www.breathingbetterlivingwell.com where you can "meet "people with COPD, see what they're doing for exercise and keeping a positive attitude and learn from them, should give you a great start.
Thanks for the great question, good luck, and be in touch!
Jane.
Thanks Jane.
I think in our "quick fix" philosophy it is not surprising that we want something like COPD to be taken care of and done with. Thanks for pointing out patients own responsibility as well as describing the different procedures available to those with this condition.
All the best, sue

Thanks, Sue. Taking responsibility is so empowering for people with COPD. That's why I love my job in pulmonary rehab so much. I have the honor of taking part in people turning their lives around. What can be better than that?
