I am 75 year old female with COPD diagnosed in 2008. I cannot take meds because I have adverse or severe side effects. After 4 years of trying to please docs and taking meds that made me extremely sick. I took over my own care.
I watch my diet. Avoid viruses and excasberations. But most of all I exercise.
After being told I would never play tennis again by more than one doctor, I decided to go that route. First time out I hit 6 balls and needed 10 minutes recovery. Last week I made the doubles B team, with intense practice for 1-1/2 hour at a time. I play and or practice 3 times a week. I bicycle 3 times a week.
On the seventh day I rest. I am in the process of learning how to breathe from the diagram. There is a lot more I could write about, but I thinks this is a good beginning.
I am still wondering whether I am doing the right thing or not? Cannot get many answers.

Well, Marlene, without knowing much about your actual medical condition & status, it sure seems like you are doing many things right. As long as you are honest with yourself, you are probably the best judge of what is happening in your body. If you are able to be that active, I would say that you are doing well.
I can understand not wanting to take meds that make you feel worse. Just be sure to keep in touch with your doctor and to re-evaluate your situation as you go along.
Congrats on building as healthy and high quality life for yourself as you can!
