Can I buy Champix legally privately , or through my GP ?.

I'm 46, and have had addiction problems for many years, but it's taken 2 months for me to actually stop using champix, but I feel my GP will not increase the length of treatment beyond 3 months, because of the cost of it rather than wether it would benefit me as a patient, as the cost was the first thing he mentioned before he prescribed it to me, I know in the Champix leaflet it says you can take for 6 months if your GP feels you need it, but what about if I feel I need it to actually stop smoking ?.
