Q: I have heard od a new stop smoking aid called X or EX on tv. Where can I get more info on it?

I can't take Chantix to due to problems it causes with depression

Hi Joan:

I haven't seen the ad you are talking about, but am familiar with a medication called

Xet. This the generic name for Paxil. You need to ask your physician or pharmacist to answer this, but unless it's Paxil, he may not know. See if you can find the phone number or website info and you can email it to me if you wish.

Be very careful about these "cures" that you see on TV. Remember what happened with Phenfen? It killed people.

One of the better known medications for smoking cessation is Zyban. It's been around for a long time. If you consider this, find yourself someone who specializes in smoking cessation as well to work with. It's a tough addiction to beat. Go to Psychology Today to find someone in your area who specializes in this.

Again, ask your doctor. He needs to know what you are doing, anyway.
