Hello Blondie and thanks so much for your post. It can be really frightening when someone we love is diagnosed with a condition like emphysema. And it sounds like you are angry too (and who wouldn't be) as your dad is still struggling with his condition.
A couple of suggestions. First, you should not have to go through this alone. Do you have a close relative or friend of the family who can be of help to you? Maybe a guidance couselor at school could also offer you support? You may even think about contacting the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association. They might know about services in your local area that could help you and your dad.
Secondly, though it is really frustrating, remember that smoking is an addiction, one that is not easily shaken and requires alot of effort and strength to overcome. One of our experts, Anne Mitchell, wrote about quitting - maybe your dad would like to read it. Its really encouraging and acknowledges how tough it can be. Check them out here:

Also, another one of our experts, Jim Christopher is an addiction specialist and has great words of inspiration for those looking to rid their lives of nicotine. You can read his posts by clicking here.
Finally, Our expert Jane Martin is a great resource for all things COPD. Her goal is all about people breathing better. You can check out her posts here.
I hope this helps you and your dad. All the best, sue
