New air pollutant linked to cancer, asthma

New research has found that many of us breathe in as much as 300 cigarettes worth of harmful air pollution per day. This newly-discovered pollution is a type of long-lasting free radical similar to the kind found in tobacco. It is sent into the air from car exhaust, smokestacks, and even household chimneys. Researchers say this pollution contributes to asthma and emphysema, and it may help explain why lifelong non-smokers develop lung cancer. Read more »
