Treating COPD patients with cholesterol-lowering statins appears to reduce the risk of death from extrapulmonary cancer, a Dutch study suggests. The study of 3,371 patients found an increased risk of death from cancer in all participants, but those who took a statin were less likely to die from extrapulmonary cancer than other patients. Researchers say this finding adds evidence to the idea that statins may lower cancer risk, but they say further studies are needed.
