Removing a woman's ovaries before menopause may increase her risk of dementia, new research suggests. A study conducted by the Mayo Clinic found that women who had one or both ovaries removed before menopause were almost twice as likely to develop dementia than women who did not have the surgery. But researchers say that women who were given hormone replacement therapy appeared to be at less risk.
