Alcohol linked to surgery risk

German researchers say that patients who are about to have surgery should avoid drinking alcohol--even in moderation--because it boosts patients' risk of post-surgery complications. In a recent study, people who drank even one to two servings of alcohol per day were more likely to fall victim to pneumonia or heart muscle disease, or to suffer complications such as bleeding after surgery. The scientists say alcohol also weakens surgery patients' immune systems and slows down their recovery time. Read more »
