Many pipe and cigar smokers comfort themselves with the belief that their habit isn't as dangerous as cigarette smoking, but experts say that isn't true. In a study of 3,528 people, researchers found that people who smoked cigars or pipes were more than three times more likely to have obstructed breathing than people who didn't smoke. The study's authors say this suggests that pipe and cigar smoking are significant risk factors for COPD.
