Test For Emphysema

Emphysema tied to premature birth

If you were born prematurely, researchers say you may be more likely to develop lung problems such as emphysema later in life. In a recent study of young adults who were born prematurely in the 1980's, researchers found that 75 percent of them had abnormal lung function tests, and 84 percent had areas of emphysema. But researchers point out that neonatal care has continued to improve, so children who are born early in this decade may not be as likely to have life-long lung problems. Read more »
