Vaccinations Against Pneumonia Are

A federal advisory committee is recommending that smokers under the age of 65 get a pneumococcal vaccine. This marks the first time a vaccine has been specifically recommended for smokers. The moves comes because studies have shown that those who smoke are four times more likely to suffer pneumococcal disease than nonsmokers. The vaccine--which is already recommended for people over the age of 65--protects against bacterial pneumonia, meningitis, and other illnesses.
