What Are The Costs Of Smoking?
The $819 billion dollar economic stimulus package that passed the U.S. House of Representatives last week includes $75 million dollars for stop-smoking programs. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, who sponsored the funding, says that the programs are an attempt to bolster the economy by preventing the health care costs that are caused by smoking every year. The U.S. Senate will likely take up the bill this week.
