Hyperventilating, also called overbreathing, can occur during panic attacks can be frightening. This can cause your panic attack to escalate.

 

When someone hyperventilates, they may feel lightheaded or dizzy. They may have additional symptoms of excess gas, belching, bloating or dry mouth.
