Experts question the benefit of steroid therapy for COPD

Experts say there are some concerns that adding steroids to long-acting beta agonists may do more harm than good for COPD patients. A new study published in the journal Chest concluded that the combination therapy should not be used, because it increased the risk of pneumonia, and did not show significant survival benefit. However, critics point out that a study from 2007 suggested that adding steroid therapy could improve the mortality rate.
