Treating COPD early may lengthen life

Patients who begin treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) early may be adding years to their lives, new studies have found. One study found that patients who had a moderate form of the disease and who were treated early with Spiriva had improvements in lung function, health-related quality of life, and showed a tendency to life slightly longer. Two other studies published in the same medical journal suggest that the anti-inflammatory Daxas improved patients' lung function when taken alone, or when added to another COPD medication.  Read full story >
