An electrical device that stimulates a nerve in the neck may ease asthma and other diseases, researchers say. The device-- which is being tested in some emergency rooms--stimulates the vagus nerve and helps release smooth muscle contractions in the lungs. Researchers say the device can improve asthma symptoms by almost half, and they suggest that it may help save the lives of patients who have severe asthma attacks, allergic reactions, or COPD exacerbations.
