Researchers say that Americans are becoming more aware of COPD, but less than half know the condition can be treated. These results come from a national survey conducted the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to coincide with COPD month. The survey of 4,172 adults found that 68 percent of respondents were aware of COPD, compared to 64 percent last year. Smokers were more aware than most about the dangers of the disease, but researchers found they often don't talk to their doctors about COPD symptoms because they don't want to be told to quit smoking.
