FDA panel backs use of Spiriva

An FDA advisory panel suggesting that the inhaler Spiriva should carry bolder benefit claims on the label--brushing aside lingering safety questions about the drug. Panel members say data from two large new studies suggest the inhaler reduces COPD wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath in patients. They also found that the new studies showed no sign of increasing the risk of death from stroke or heart attack.  Read full story >
