I read the article about young children and depression, and I am somewhat surprised that people have doubts about the possibility of young children having depression.
I divorced my husband when my younger daughter was 3, and she showed symptoms of depression for quite some time. She often seemed angry and acted out with me.
While working for the child protective agency in my state, I had to take a 9-month-old from her home because of severe neglect and failure to thrive. She looked like pictures I've seen of starving children with large stomachs and thin limbs. She was also filthy and had a horrible diaper rash. She definitely appeared depressed and did not react to attention as a baby normally would. Happily, within a week of being in a good foster home, she seemingly had recovered and was like a different baby!
