As a rule

Saturday, February 07, 2009 at 12:08 AMI have had mental health issues (the PC term now) since the 80's.I have done pretty well all the ridiculous things that, so called experts have told me to do. I know that they must try to make themselves out to be on our level, not looking down on us. I am not entirely sure that system works because I have had a few counsellors, where at the end of our session I am not sure who was the therpist and who was the client.
Since mine is a chronic condition (bipolar II) I have been fortunate to meet some women in wonderful groups that have been able to attend. Of course the professionals have helped a lot, I cannot put into words that what the other women have given men. Some that were very ill themselves but out put themselves out there to help a fellow suffer. I am quite inclined to both group, therapy and support. because, to put it bluntly we are all in the same boat, and also at some of our darkest times need to reach out. If you can get into a system where at least know, if you are writing something down someone is out there who will at least read it. You can spare a lot of crap when you are writing so someone "who gets it".
To try to be a little more concise it that I believe that the need to belong, is one of the basic human needs for survival and anyone who encourages depressives to reach out is preforming a great service to others.
I hope that this will be read by some who are suffering, who will realize that if you reach out. A lot of the time it is you just reaching out your hand because there will be someone out there to grab back.
Depressives often need something tangible to hang onto in the dark times, when there is no one around. I have had a difficult couple of months but I had heard this anthem before, didn't know all of the words but wanted to find them out. I googled what I knew and came up with the artist who wrote it, Libby Roderick, the song lyrics and then after going to her site I could hear her sing it.
Makes cry everytime. Also helps make me know that I do belong.

Saturday, February 07, 2009 at 12:12 AMThis is a reply to my reply. I post the comment and then reread it
At one point I used the word "men" when obviosly I shouldn't have.
The other thing was I noticed that I hadn't put down the name of Libby's song. Well-known world wide and an anthem of healing.
It is called "How can Anything"
Starts out "How can anyone ever tell you that you're anything less than beautiful"
