You've probably seen the television commercials or magazine ads for Cymbalta, and you might be wondering what makes it different from other antidepressants. Since I know that the writing in the medication insert is dense enough to make your eyes cross and your head nod, I've distilled some of the bas...
  1. Cymbalta works great for me!

Cymbalta's ad campaign says that "depression hurts." While that's not true for everyone with this miserable disease, it is true for me. Until my doctor prescribed Cymbalta, no matter what I took for depression, I had minor aches and pains all the time that just made me not feel good. Now, those symptoms are gone.

To me, Cymbalta has been a lifesaver, as I can go to work every day, whereas before, it was a struggle just to get out of bed in the morning. I know this sounds like an ad for the drug, but it has really worked for me.

then I started feeling bad again so the dose was changed to 60 mg, and I haven't felt any better.  I've been complaining about many dreams and weight gain.  It seems that even when I cut down on eating, my weight still climbs.  So my Dr. took my dose of Cymbalta back down to 30 and then wants me to stop it completely for one week, and will probably start Effexor.  She wants me to see the difference between not taking anything and the Cymbalta, or anything for that matter.  Her reasoning is that I'm constantly wondering if I really have depression.  I was sent to the psychiatrist by my family doctor because of anxiety and it was at the psy. that I was diagnosed with depression too.  When she asks me if I believe I'm depression, I usually say "you tell me I am".  And I do believe her, it is just so hard for me to accept that.

Hi! I don't have my medication insert & for some reason I

have it in my mind that taking Cymbalta w/an NSAID (ibuprofen)

shouldn't be done.  Is that correct or am I imagining this?
    Thanks - :)

I am also taking Cymbalta after being on several different anti-depressants over the years. Not everyone will react the same to everything but Cymbalta has made a huge difference.  The side-effects are miniscule. Since I need to be on something, I'm glad this is one of the options.  (The worst side effect was after my first dosage of effexor.  I am a pastor and took it the night before a Palm Sunday service.  I sounded as if I had stuffed a box of cotton in my mouth.  So after that, I learned never to make a switch in meds before Sunday morning.  It was really funny actually.)
