Hello, I'm new here

By DenaD Monday, February 25, 2008

Hello, I'm not sure if this will post in a forum but I'm going to treat it as though it will. Feel free to correct me!
My name is Dena. I am 38 years old. I've been dealing/living with depression since puberty. I've actively and agressively sought treatment for the past 2 or so years.
I still go through bad days, good days, blah days, etc.
I've got a better handle it. I know my body better now.
I've got these daily 'to do' lists now. So if I'm dog faced in the mud depressed I still do these little things and VIOLA I've accomplished something. It's working for me.

I'm hiding in my house today but I will still get my list done. Joining here is one of them. I've wanted to communicate with other folks who have depression for a long time now. I hope this is the right place to be.

Welcome DenaD!

You've come to a wonderful place where there is lots of support, advice, people to lend an ear and much information from the resident experts.

There are some links I can give you for working your way around.

First of all, these shareposts are a great way to meet the community but also to get information about new treatments or alternative treatments.  You can read some about that here. Also, there is a great overview. Perhaps you have friends or family who just do not understand. This is a good place to send them for information.

Nothing can take the place of your physicians advice, but the information and conversation you will find here will help you ask those questions of your doctor that you need to know.

Take care and let us know how you are doing!

I just joined too --it was on my list!  I can relate to having the daily lists.  I also keep track of 5 accomplishments and 5 highlights of each day --some days the accomplishments are pretty minor, like getting up to go to the bathroom!  but other days I get a lot done.  Then every week I list the 5 highlights and accomplishments for the week;  same for every month and every year, and it helps me feel good about what I am doing and experiencing.

Hi Dena,

Welcome. This is a friendly place with some caring & supportive people. It's a good place to help you remember that you are not alone in your struggles.

Your list sounds like a great idea! Motivation has been such a HUGE issue for me lately. I'm gonna give that a try & see if it helps.

I've also dealt with depression as well as anxiety since childhood. I was resistant to treatment until my anxiety got so out of control I could not manage it on my own anymore. I take Zoloft now which has worked wonders for anxiety symptoms & even seemed to help the depression until I lost my best friend last August. Now I'm in a funk that I cannot seem to escape. It feels good to come here & read & respond to others who understand.

Feel free to message me anytime. I don't get here every day but I try.

Peace,

Danielle
