Through my psychiatrist I was on Celexa, then Effexor 75mg, then, finally 150mg for a year, to "give me a boost." A boost I did not experience; I didn't experience productive energy surge, but rather 6-hour intervals of extreme drowsiness and fatigue, followed by insominia at 3AM, just when I needed to sleep. My life was going to hell.
Tapering off Effexor over 6 weeks I experienced increased mood swings, irritability and impatience with the undane. This I clearly attribute to the withdrawl. I know now what is happening more than ever, and I'm trying to deal with that without the likes of Effexor, through meditation and other inlets.
I feel I need something other than meditating to give me a boost. Effexor withut the side effects. My new primary care physician, whom I have come to trust, prescirbed paroxetine 10 mg.
Any experience with this, anyone?

Hey there
Well from all that I have read and heard...Effexor is a tough medication to stop taking as the withdrawals can be extreme. So it is great that you have survived weaning off of this drug. Was wondering if you might make a comment on our Member Medication Review post for Effexor. The information you give will help other members going through the same thing.
I am currently using a natural substance to help with my depression called SAM-e. I have found that it helps me to stay afloat and gives me energy. But everyone is going to have a different experience. Do not try anything new...even if it is from a health food store without first consulting with your doctor. There may be interactions with prescription drugs you are already taking.
Here is the information we have on Paxil for you to check out.
