I guess I've been losing it these days.  I've been obsessed with my looks now...using hair masks, all that stuff, getting my hair dyed, using face masks, trying new moisturizing treatments...I never felt really that self concious until my friend said, "Stop obsessing with your looks!  Let i...

I don't think there are antidepressants just for young people, they only lower the dosage. I heard Prozac can help even things out. But who knows, until we try. I'm wondering how you are feeling now. You seem to have the highs and lows of we depressives. You could walk around saying, Aaargh, a lot. That would make people smile for a while, until they got irritated like crazy. :)

Doesn't cutting leave scarring? Is it still preferrable? Because the three people I know who have done this, strike me as being intellingent and attractive and you are one of them. I still think a good therapist is the best way out of this, or somebody outstanding, but I wouldn't know, nor do I know where one is. There has to be an alternative to releasing such pain, somehow.

Your second question was probably something like, will those members who ask too many question not answer this...  :)  Aaaargh! Too late.

    Allyce,

I have suffered from Depression, Bi-polar disorder, and anxiety for a long time with little relief, but that is not the case with most people.

My first suggestion to you is to "CHANGE PSYCHOLOGIST"  It seems he/she is not listening to you, and PLUS a Psychologist can not prescribe you any medication at all, NOR can they on their own arrange a hospital admission.  This must be done by an MD, preferably by a Psychiatrist.  Since it does seem you REALLY NEED to be on some type of medication, I would suggest finding a PSYCHIATRIST who is an MD, in your area to see and determine what medications are appropriate for your current situation.  You may simply have bi-polar disorder, in which most ALL of those med's are safe in teens.  But if you do get diagnosed with depression (Best done again by a Psychiatrist and NOT a Psychologist) then the doctor can go over with you a list of medications and which one they prefer, they will advise you of any side effects the drug may have and they will also tell you that if you experience ANY of the major side effects to stop taking the drug IMMEDIATELY and contact them. IF they don't tell you this, ask them.

If you don't know where to look for a Psychiatrist or a new Psychologist (where in your case from what you have said, it seems like a Change of Psychologists would be in your best interest)  Type in Psychiatrists and the city and state you live in, on Google and then there will be a pop up of a list of those doctors in your area or surrounding areas.  What I think you need is to see a Psychiatrist once a month to regulate your medication, and then see a Psychologist or a Therapist weekly for 50 minutes of Talk Therapy.  MOST Psychiatrists these days do not usually see patients for talk therapy, they usually see you only for about 30 minutes and then determine the best med's to start "trying".  (Although there are some Psychiatrists that do both talk therapy and Medications, and if you can find a Psychiatrist who does do both, you might want to see that person for all your needs since he/she can PRESCRIBE you medications immediately and also talk with you weekly for talk therapy)

I hope this helps some with your issues and problems of finding help where you live, because it does not seem you have a good relationship with your current Psychologist.  I hope you find the help you need to feel good again.  A short term (2 weeks) stay in a Psychiatric hospital might help you, especially since you mentioned you were thinking about it in the first place.  Good Luck!!!

    Hi Allyce

May I ask...how old are you?  Do you have supports you can count on...such as your parents or friends?

If you are thinking about cutting I would like you to do something else when that urge strikes you such as write to us here.  Do you have someone that you can go to...when you feel like hurting yourself?

Please keep talking...we want to hear more about how things are going for you.
