Brain Stimulation
Jennifer
Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 07:23 PMI am very interested in thisstudy. I am bi-polar has the study been tried on anyone who is suffering with bipolar disorder? I am sick of the "Let's try another pill!" attitude from the entire psychiatric community. I will hop on a plane right now to try something new. Where do I sign up?

Thursday, August 07, 2008 at 02:32 PMJennifer, What you are referring to is called a "Vagus Nerve Stimulator" or "VNS" made by Cyberonic. I have been there and done that with the pill parade. I had a VNS implanted 1 1/2 years ago and have no regrets. This is a progressive treatment meaning I still take medication but it is far less and my goal is to get rid of all the pills. My family and friends say I'm much better and I feel it too. Do some research...good luck, Jamie

Still spooks me

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at 11:20 AMI have an issue with anyone putting anything INSIDE my brain, i know of so many that have and have had pacemakers for their hearts and i know this is different in a sense but there are sooooooo many things that can go wrong and they AREN"T for life from what i understand for an elderly lady that has been in my life since i was a kid has to have one REPLACED for it's been there for so many years and seems to be failing, now i ask, would i want to put something that is regulating my BRAIN that could malfunction or just not be effective at all and all that you had to go through to get it done???
Sorry this is a spooky concept to me, big time, perhaps it is the bp paranoria butuhm for some reason it just is far to past the realm of technology to me to accept...for as one poster put it .....we are just now getting THERAPY into this century of understanding....and since we have ONLY ONLY therioes as to what it is that creates bp or depression or any mental illness i am a little hesitant to say GO FOR IT>>.some great success and i am HAPPY VERY MUCH SO for you but as for me...
I think I'll swallow a pill instead of SURGERY to implant something ....it only takes a swallow and yes i have been on 53 diff meds in a period of 3 years and know that isn't good either, been told medication reisitant but uhm i utilize coping skills immensly and have fortunately founda great therapist and pdoc ....so i am very very fortunate there.....but for now....this rapid rapid cycling mixed mood bp is sticking with the medications or at WORST i'd try to deal on my own which i know isn't the answer, now found a cocktail that seems to be working, i think we give up to fast on the meds for trust me i almost went that way too after so many medications....
I also have MANY physical illnesses and seven lesions on my white matter ofthe corona radiata of the brain, so i'm not real enthused about the IMPLANT of anything but that is a personal preference and i say if it works for YOU go for it....but i fear that it will become a staple practice and yet research is still not complete, not big on being a guinea pig, rather utilize a tried and true method or one that is new and NOT implanted...this scares me and like i said, probably the typical bp paranoria but geez, this is not a simple procedure and it certainly isn't something that YOU control as you do with your medications....i mean what if there happens to be a test subject that it makes WORSE...how many more could it affect??? it just puts fear in me to think that there are thoe that want to put something permanently in my BRAIN....no thanks for this ctry girl i'll just take my meds, use my woods and peaceful environment and support group for now......but i so appreciate the information and the knowledge you imparted....it is so good to keep up on the newest of new ways and well, just because this one isn't for ME personally i love reading about the newest research....
thanks again for the post...
sincerely

why does councilling lack in so many parts i had to leave my councillor and self help myself i found my way much more effective the life enhancing tools i came across was amazing from psycho cybernetics to real intelligence nlp the list goes on we live in the 21st century ive seen computer upgrades technology upgrades why does councilling still live in the dark ages. we maybe should take a look at how out dated councilling is and shift it into the 21st century. i have no phds or bound by any other certificate but im shocked that depression still exists in this rich information era thank you for taking the time to listen to me
