Well by having parents that grew primarily grew up in the country; they had lots of saying that I find myself using today. Sometimes I get the "what" look, then the burst of laughter, then the famous, "say that again".
Here are some of the sayings that I find myself saying today;
"Some people just don't believe that fat meat is greasy". This simply means that you do not believe that there are consequences for your actions, but you will see!
"Run around with your head knotty, and your nose snotty, you had better ask somebody". This simply means, you do not believe what you are being told, but you had better heed what you are being told. "True friends are like hen teeth, and a hen aint got no teeth". True friends are hard to find, cherish that friend. "You're too big for them britches" You are getting beside yourself. "I will turn that laugh into a cry". When you are being punished, and you are laughing, not good. "If you don't stop, I am going to give you what pat gave the drum", you had better stop whatever it is that you are doing, if you know what is good for you. "Stop running around, like a chicken with his head cut off". Stop being silly and acting up. One final one that I love, "I aint begging, I'm buying", if you do not want to share, then don't. These are just a few of the things we were told as growing up. I often heard my grandparents say these things and more. I am sure that you have some also. Sometimes when my parents even say them today, I smile. Those country sayings always bring a smile to my face. Yes when people hear them, sometimes they will say, "girl you are so country". I respond, "Yea that is what happens, when you Grow up Country".
