A re-energised carer-support and some time out is the key

I forbid my DAD today to not go down the black hole again, I hope it helped but we will see, at least it made him smile for a split second.

It has only been 8 weeks since his last major suicide episode, and within that time I have grown again as a support person, I have definitely learned to share the burden, the hard times and how I feel.

He went on holidays for 3 weeks to give me a break, I was able to unwind and relax. Thanks Dad for thinking of me.

I have started to feel the weight lift off my shoulders and be there for him in a more practical way, deliberate in my questions, searching for the words he needs at that moment and not flossing over with unusable fluff...

Our special wonderful doctor was transferred and now he no longer thinks the doctors can help him, boy that is sad for both of us, as she made him accountable for his part in recovery and adjusted his medication strength to suit.

How few and far between are these doctors, I will begin my search again for that special health care person.

I have managed to stay positive and have more underlying energy...so far...more reserves...after being able to spend time with my children over xmas, clean the piles of puss in the house(spring Clean), throw out old reminders of a troubled past...deal with my issues...

Re-energised and ready for the next lot of challenges.

May life be kind to him this year, may light shine in his heart and most of all may he open up once in a while and laugh and make his eyes glow again like I remember years ago.

I salute to my Dad, he is living proof you can survive, with support, and a network of understanding likeminded individuals.

It's good to hear that you got a little break for a while.  I sympathize with your dad losing a good doctor - that's always so disappointing because it takes a lot of work, usually, to find somebody good.  I've had the best luck by asking people I know either in the healthcare field or those who have received good care from a good doctor.  I hope it doesn't take you too long - I wish you the best of luck.
