Thank you for your info-just a thought about what you wrote.

I take provasin, an old blood pressure drug, for PTSD.

It is used 'off label' for nightmares. I have found it is effective and inexpensive.

I was part of a double blind study run by Dr. Tony George at Yale, New Haven, CT a number of years ago.  I was then (and am still) taking Zoloft (Sertraline) for MDD.  I was fortunate in that I received mecamylamine rather than the placebo during the study as my scores on the depression scale he was using (I don't remember which one it was) improved greatly.  After completion of the trials, when I stopped taking the medication, I immediately felt an increase in my depressive symptoms.  When I met with Dr. George for my follow-up, he confirmed that I had been taking mecamylamine and it was then prescribed for me by my regular doctor.

I continued to take mecamylamine (Inversine) until it was discontinued by the manufacturer in 2009.  This is the third year I have struggled with increased depressive symptoms during the cold, dreary, dark New England winter.  I have yet to find something that has the same positive effect on my mood as the mecamylamine.

I would appreciate any information regarding whether this medication is available under any other name or if there is anything on the market that works in a similar fashion.  I'm hesitant to start changing my antidepressant medication when I know in three months I'll be doing better again.  I really wish that Inversine had not be discontinued as it was so beneficial to me.
