How do you cope with stressful days

By fifi Thursday, October 15, 2009

Hi eveyone.

I was so stressed out yesterday. couldn't wait for everyone to just get out of the house today, so I could just be by myself. Everything just seemed to get on top of me. problems taking a product back to a shop when I had already rang up and was told to take it to the nearest store as they were having problems with this particular thing. Cashier was so rude and told me I couldn't exchange it, then had to see the manager he sorted it in the end eventually, so something that should have taken five minutes, took about half an hour. Was fuming when I got outside. Then my so called friend who I listen to for days on end when she has problems, said 'are you still going on about that' half an hour later. what a bloody cheek. We had been searching for a pair of flowery welly boots for her, for two hours and she wanted to get back to that. Then she couldn't decide which brown tights to choose and we stood there for I'm not kidding you about half an hour, my daughter was freaking out and saying in my other ear 'for gods sake, lets just go. I know I sound really impatient, but my friend is a perfectionist and I mean perfectionist I have to check her bows on her dress to make sure that the ties are the same length and many other things she wants me to check. It drives me up the wall. Normally I can cope but yesterday was a bit much.

Not sure what to do for the best.

Hi, Fifi.  Sounds like you had a fun day - not!  Yeah, it does seem like all the snags that can happen in a week come in one day and you just want to explode.  Maybe shopping with your friend is something you should avoid for a while.  I guess one way I cope with times like that is to just kind of "give in" and think, well I can't do anything about this right now and the world won't end.  It's easier for me now that I'm retired, don't have all that work stress on me any more which is heaven.  Maybe you could try to focus on your breathing when you're in situations like that, it might get those anxious thoughts out of your head, at least temporarily.  Hope today is better!

Thanks Judy

Yesterday was much better, I cleaned my house from top to bottom and that really seemed to help, to just be on my own and sort the little nooks and crannies out in the house. You are right though, my friend has ocd,she is on medication for it and seeing a therapist, she has been for twenty one years, and normally I can cope with her funny ways but when I'm stressed I just cant handle it.  I do need to have time away from her to gather myself together as she makes me feel so anxious when I'm with her.

Just kidding.  Some days I try to hide away so I don't have to interact very much.  Doesn't it seem that some days you can handle everything that comes your way but other days...every thing seems awful and difficult.  Do try to take some time out just to be alone or whatever is re-energizing to you.  You deserve it!

Thanks Merely Me,

I did hide yesterday and felt much better for it. No one to hassle me, I really needed that.
