I had a great week and I am looking forward to next week but I am having a hard time keeping busy. I am trying to find out more about the DRAIL Agency that I am going to on Tuesday but there is not a whole lot of information on the web. They do have a website but it's limited. Has anyone used an Independent Living Center before?

Well I have ideas of what they might do but I really don't know for sure as I don't know this exact agency.

What are you hoping they do?

Do you find that keeping busy helps you with your depression?  Is it hard to relax?

I am excited for you and I know it is hard to wait.  What sort of fun stuff do you like to do on the weekends?

Keep writing!  We love to hear from you.

I am meeting with the person who does the independent living skills program at the independent living center. I am looking for a support system that does activities around town or even out of town. I don't have a lot of friends so I'm hoping that will happen somewhere down the road.

Hi again

Why don't you try meet up.com  where you write in your zipcode and they have groups which meet in your area based on anything from movies to support groups to going out for coffee.  I bet you could find others this way.

Have a great weekend Emily!

Hi, Emily.  My son receives services from an agency like this; a staff person spends time with him every night, sometimes with others from his community, and they make supper or go to the Y and work out.  He gets help with cleaning and cooking.  Before he moved into an apartment, he attended a transition program after high school that taught him some job skills and also living skills.  I have a feeling that might be what you will experience - learning how to cook and clean, do laundry, etc., maybe using public transportation to go shopping.  All of these things will make it easier for you to live on your own and feel like you are in control of your life.

You'll have to let us know what it's like after you start there.  Hope you have a great week-end.

Thanks Judy for the information. I think my parents will be happy if I get some skills like cooking, etc (I've been doing my own laundry since about high school which was about ten years ago when I graduated). But I'm not real good at cleaning and money stuff. I do vaccumm and dust every friday for my parents. But I think it will make them feel better once their gone knowing that I have some independence...
