I am 50 years old and was prescribed this by a well intentioned general medical practitioner.  I actually felt better for the first time in years but within one week I was feeling the beginnings of T.D.  Snakelike ripplings along my tongue.  I was knowledgeable enough to know something was wrong.  (I had checked the internet for info before taking the drug and I was aware of possible side effects to watch for)  When I told the physician he was still thinking I should continue but said I should decide.  I stopped immediately.  My concern is that general physicians are just not told about the very possible side effects.  With more research, I found some sad stories of children who also got TD and it was not reversible.

P.S.  It has been several years since I stopped the risperdal and I still get the ripplings but I can live with it.  If you look up TD, you will find other symptoms that are just horrible.

    Margo,

Thank you for commenting. You and share the same concerns.

It especially concerns me when some medications are prescribed for children who are too young to recognize and tell their parents about side effects that are invisible to the parents.

Truly, I hope to be proven wrong on this one.

    Thanks again,

    Teri

to whom that it may concern,

my son who is six now but was four and a half when he started taking risperdal has significantly improved with his behavior he went from trying to drown my daughter to being somewhat of a normal six year old now. My only question is what are the long term side affects of this drug and will the side affects effect him in his adult years.
