Thursday, October 08, 2009 at 05:59 AMHi Teri, Glad you had a mental health week and the Screening you mention in the States is terrific. Its still a Stigma here. Many famous people, very gifted people have come out to say theyre Bipolar etc but for us mere mortals, its not so easy. Public psychiatry and Therapy [where I go] is dismal, 10mins with a Shrink means a pad with a script and no time to get to know you. The Government is in huge crisis, Mental Health seems at the v bottom of the pile of problems. However, ironically, the National Bill for Antidepressants and psychiatric incare is greater than ever and suicide rates soaring as community life erodes and life becomes isolated. We do have Depression days but nothing gets done on a Government level, on a Politcal level, the will isnt there. Barak Obama goes around the world about peace, i think the USA, EC countries [like us here in Ireland] and even the Muslim Far Eastern countries need to have a summit on Mental health strategies. If our mental health goes... whats left? Thanks for all your wonderful posts.
