Treatment for depression

By lonelyone Thursday, October 01, 2009

I have been suffering with depression for a long time.Having been tried on all kinds of antidepressants and mood stabilizers. Several Dr's have told me about certain vitamins are lacking in your body that affects the brain. I say to myself sure more pills. But I also said why not try. So I had a Vit D level drawn and my level was terribly low so my Dr told me to start taking Vit D3 supplements 800mg a day and 50,000 a week. He also told me that Folic Acid was found to be low in people with depression and now I'm taking 400mg a day and also Omega 3 Fish oil 2 once a day. I also take my depression meds also which weren't helping until I started taking these vitamins. I now can feel a big difference in how I feel. I am happily surprised and am glad I decided to try them. It takes a couple of weeks for them to get into your system but it's worth the weight.

Wow, this is great news ! your Doctor sounds like hes/shes really keeping up with findings as many docs like my G.p. laugh at me taking all the vitamins. Foiic Acid I know as found t be low in Schitzophenics and other forms of mental illness. Omega 3s I already take and they really do help concentration and are great for the brain. kids are being given them here for ADD and have improved concentration at school. We're eating less and less fish [here anyway] I dont know where you live, but Vit D is def. lacking as we have had no summers in 3years due to Global warming. Just grey rain. the skies here from now onwards are grey too. All this grey and lack of sunlight does deplete the body, Im interested its VitD3. I was found to be anaemic [its part of Rheum.Arth] but by taking a supplement its helped my panic. So these are all natural and good. Merely Me will be doing the different Anti-depressants each Tues and will be covering alternative meds as well, so I guess vitamins will get a look in. Im delighted you have a go ahead Doc. Take care,

Thank you so much for sharing this information with us.  I am one who does believe that supplements can help.  I am so glad this combination is working for you.  Do you feel any other effects...like more energy...anything like that?

I hope you write again to give us updates on how you are doing.
