My recent experience with depression

By sheila Wednesday, March 25, 2009

I am overcoming, I hope, a period in my life where I have been very depressed.  I am overworked and underappreciated and don't seem to cope well with the changes that are not beneficial.  Maybe I can come out of this period soon.  I keep trying to relax and think good thoughts.

Hi there

I am glad you have come to this site to share your experience.  You talk about changes in your life.  Is there anything specific that is going on?

Change is always hard for me too.  Sometimes you have to take stock of your life and see what good things are happening and also what changes you would like to enact.

I hope you keep sharing your experiences here.  I am sure so many others can relate.

I am thinking of returning to school.  Maybe a change of pace and atmosphere will help me.  I want to hae new relationships.  I got to get up out this mode of self-pity.

Sheila, you are on the right track if you can just hang on to your positive thoughts. The key is that once you're on the track, take it in moderation and then don't get off. Going back to school is a great idea. I went back at 35. It forces you to keep moving and gives you something to focus on other than your pitiful life. Plus, it builds your self image and confidence which a lot of people with depression suffer from. Just whatever it is you choose to do, don't forget to do it in moderation. I went gun-ho and burned myself out physically because of the job field I ended up in and put myself back to square one. Once you are out there "Doing," it will help you get on with your life, so stay on the track! My circumstances I'm sure are very different than yours and a long story at that, but you can do it! Go get it! Whatever IT is! Take Care
