Weekly Wrap Up

Merely Me Health Guide
  • Hi everyone!

It is now officially the weekend.  This means we have made it through the work week.  That has to count for something right?  Do you ever wish they had a prize just for surviving the week? Here is our "getting through the week" trophy.

    So how was your week?

    1.  On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate your week?

    2.  What was the very best thing about this week?

    3.  What were some of the challenges of this week?  How did you cope with these challenges?

This weekend, do something fun.  Get out of the house and enjoy the day even if it is a short time.  Unable to get out?  Try some different scenery.  Go to a different room in your house or apartment and open the window.  Get some fresh air.  Change your perspective.

Today I am getting out to see a movie, The King's Speech.  It is supposed to be very good.  I am excited about the movie but also the popcorn and raisenettes.  I am definitely going to savor the experience.  How about you guys?  What is the last movie you have seen in a movie theater?

While I am here I also wanted to share some interesing links with you from all around the Health Central stratosphere.

What is happening on Health Central?

    • On the Depression site you guys are writing some very insightful and thought provoking shareposts.  Nanypat asked how to handle a therapist's absence.  Lyra talked about the importance of hope.  And Donna wonders what one can expect from recovery.

If you haven't written a sharepost yet, I would encourage you to do so or comment on other member's writings.  It helps to build community and support when we engage in conversation and discussion with one another.

    • Do you suffer from any phobias?  Well you are not alone if you do.  In fact, many celebrities also have phobias and some are quite interesting.  In conducting on-line research to write my article on celebrity phobias, I found that Barbara Walters shares my phobia of driving.

    • If you suffer from anxiety and/or depression, getting emotionally close to someone may be daunting.  In a two part series I discuss the fear of emotional intimacy as well as sexual intimacy anxiety.

    • On the ADHD site I wrote about our experience giving our son the anti-psychotic medication, Risperidone or Risperdal.  If you have any experience with this medication please stop by to comment.  I would greatly appreciate it.

    • Are you confused about all the new recommendations for Vitamin C and D?  I know I am.  It seems the recommended daily intake of these vitamins keeps changing.  I know that I was found to be deficient in Vitamin D and this deficiency can contribute to mental problems including neurological problems and problems with mood.  So this is a very important topic for our mental health sites.  Pam Flores, who is the community leader for our Osteoporosis site recently interviewed Dr. Davis from our heart disease site about these new recommendations from the Institute of Medicine.  This is a not to be missed interview and I hope you all can go over to read and to comment.

    • Over on our skin cancer site I have attempted to "put to bed" some of the myths about using tanning beds.  Some people from the tanning industry want to make the public think that using a tanning bed is healthy for us.  Not so.  Please read my article to find out why.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and I will see you back here on Monday!  Keep on writing and sharing.  We love to hear from you.
