Hi, MM. If the government shuts down, my younger son will be affected because he works for Social Security! My husband right away started worrying about how he would pay his rent, but I guess my tendency is to think about the likelihood of this shutdown lasting very long, plus my son is enough money in reserve to get him by for a while. So, I'm not really worrying about it
Something else unexpected has happened, too. My daughter-in-law is starting a new job and my grandson will be going to a rather expensive daycare that is closer to our house and I offered to watch him one day a week if that would help them be able to better afford it - and that's exactly what's going to happen. This coming week is unclear yet because he's just going to "visit" the first couple of days at the new daycare, but after that, I'll have him every Monday. I know it will tie me down just a tiny bit, but the opportunity to spend more time with him far outweighs that. And summer is coming, so there will be so much more we can do, plus my husband will be fully retired in June so that will help, plus my grandson is crazy about him and vice-versa, so everyone wins. So I will be shopping for a few things to have here for him and thinking of things to do. It also makes me remember the good times I used to have with my grandparents when I was little, but how little attention my parents gave my kids and how they barely know them - and I know I sure don't want THAT to happen with this little guy.
Hope everyone has a great week-end. I will be practicing dance steps for a few hours tomorrow, getting ready for our spring show at the end of the month. I stop and think about how there are a number of us over 60 doing this alongside younger ones - pretty amazing for this generation of "seniors" (I hate that word!) who don't seem all that old.
I see this morning that the gov't is not going to shut down after all. I figured the would wrangle some sort of deal at the last minute. Not the ideal situation; still, it is good for many people that things will keep running. Probably better for the economy in the long run, too. I hear there is a bill in the running that would give us a balanced budget and allow us to start paying back the trillions we owe in 10 yrs.
My mom is doing better, thank God. She is awfully tired, with her yearly Style Show coming up Monday night. As usual, she has waited till the last minute to pull it all together. I'm trying to stay away today and tomorrow because it just upsets me too much to watch the clock running down while I try to type up the notes for the speaker. She writes a blurb about each girl and each garment and someone will have to read it for her this year because she can't stand for very long. I am not going to read it -- I've already decided that! I will go and take her and even help with the auditorium decorating if needed, but that's as far as I'm going.
I got my first cat yesterday. It took 2 hrs to coax her into the pet carrier at her old home. This morning she is apparently napping under a comforter I draped over a leather recliner, because there is this little lump under there that wasn't there yesterday. I'm confining her to the living room and kitchen right now. When she adapts to that, we will try the bedroom (since she likes to sleep under the covers.) And if it doesn't work out, I have an open invitation to return her. A small gamble. I wanted a pet without the bother of walking a dog, and this is a totally indoor cat. We'll see. Also, this rat-at-night business is getting totally out of hand. And what better way to control a rat population than a cat? Wish me luck!
Hi Donna-1,
There was a time I co-ordinated and ran fashion shows. I thought it was such fun -- but I was much younger and more energetic in that life long ago. I would have appreciated a daughter's help. Funny, I probably would have upset her as I rushed to be ready.
Ah, a cat. My son always wanted a cat, so I finally rescued one. I never knew how much I would like that cat. I hope you enjoy your new feline friend as much.
Hi MM and all,
I was leaving the chiropractor's which is always a happy time, anyway, and I decided to put a CD in my deck I hadn't listened to in a while. The speaker's enthusiasm, for a subject that interests me, totally reoriented my day to the
very positive, up side.
Ric
Hi Ricovring, what an interesting name.
I remember when I listened to books as I drove between home and work - sometimes stories, but other times positive feedback. That was a joy. I am glad to hear others enjoy those delights, too.
