I thought we might do something a little different today. In addition to talking about our week I wanted to explore the theme of how to cope with unexpected events. I have always said that depression never happens in a vacuum. There are always going to be things in our external world which we never expected but nonetheless we are forced to deal with.
One of the unexpected events (or maybe it really is not so unexpected) for those of us living in the U.S. is that the government may shut down. It seems inconceivable that this could happen but as of right now it seems like a strong possibility that it very well could. The repercussions of such a shutdown would cost us millions and many workers will have to take unpaid leave. My family would be directly affected by this.
It reminds me of the words of the late Gilda Radner in her role of Roseanne Roseannadanna when she would say, "If it is not one thing it is another." Ain't that the truth?
