That is really wild MM! I love your candidness, openness and courage to be fully you and this was very refreshing and it did distract me!
very pretty!
Marishka
Thanks Marishka!
It is a strange post but I thought this was a rare thing to see so I wanted to share it with you guys.
I think I have identified it as a male luna moth. They only have one week to mate and then they die. They are born without any way to feed so they live off what they have from emerging from the cocoon.
By sheer coincidence the Lunesta ad is on the top of the front page. I did sleep well last night. Perhaps it was my moth friend sending sleep vibes. LOL
I hope you have a great weekend Marishka.
MM, please forgive my attempt to give pics and quotes. I ended up with a mess and don't know how to undo it! So sorry!

Awww don't be sorry...it happens all the time.
I think I found what this moth is...a male luna moth. He is quite pretty in the daylight but I am looking at his belly side. I hope he finds his mate before the week is up. My cat would dearly love to play with him! I am glad she hasn't seen him but then again he is outside the window.
Thanks for looking up stuff to help me...that is so nice!
Merely Me,
You're very welcome! I like looking things up! I think the Internet is just the best thing ever for finding out things. I remember getting my first dictionary in the fourth grade; I learned a lot from it, but the Internet is ever changing and adding more information. I try to check reliable sources. If I could just remember all I find! Seems as tho a professor of mine said that education is learning how to find information we need.
A couple of years ago there was a smaller (than the one in the pic of yours) luna moth here at the apt. building I live in. I had watched it some before mentioning it to a friend. Unfortunately, her grandson decided he wanted it, caught it and put it in a cereal box! I wished I'd not said anything about it.
It probably is the type of moth used in the Lunesta commercial--"luna"--Lunesta. The Latin word "luna" means moon.
Thanks for getting rid of the mess I made!!

I have seen these moths before and they are really pretty. I have had moths just sit on my screens for days too. I don't know what it is they are doing? I always thought it might be new moths (just came out of cocoon) that are sitting around until their wings fully dry, but that is just a guess.
For the past two months or so, there has been a big banana spider (big black spider with a sort of banana shaped yellow marking on its back) that has made a web the size of a small car I swear between some trees near my house. I see it every morning when I walk my dog. I just love nature and am fascinated by stuff like this too. It is a good distraction.
Hi there
I find it all fascinating too. The moth was so still...I guess it was resting or waiting around for a mate. It is gone today so I figure it flew away to meet a lady moth.
That sounds like an interesting spider. Is it a golden silk-orb weaver? Is there a zig-zag pattern to the web? I took a nature class once where they talked about identifying spiders by their webs. I remember they said the black widow had a very haphazard disorganized web.
It is kinda nice to talk about something other than depression isn't it? :>)
Thank you for your comment.
Looks more like this one, but from what I've read it is from the golden silk weaver family of spiders. this variety is found in south louisiana.
btw. the pic in the link was taken at Lake Martin in Louisiana, which is just a few miles from where I live. You really have to watch out for these spiders round this time of year. They won't bite if not disturbed but they build huge webs in inconvenient places so you have to watch where you are walking. A person can sure look crazy flailing around after walking through a spider web, lol.
Haha I've seen some pretty big ones here in Washington as well. An old man who lived in the apartments I lived in over in Kent caught one of these monstrous things in the stairwell. It was trapped in a spider web between 2 posts. He found it again later on either dead or about to die. He had it in a red jewelry box it looked so neat. Only way we could tell it was the same old monster moth was the sheer enormity of it. It had about the same wingspan only it was the dusted earthy grey color. Still beautiful cause of the patterns. Some things don't need a lot of color to shine.
This fellow looks green in the photo. Is it green? Or is it just lighting?
Anyway, it was amazing to see a moth that size. Butterflies around here average about that size but moths are usually very small.
Please tell me what "Mothra" is. Is it like Godzilla or something?
It is scary looking! Never seen anything like it. Where is this? New York?
Donna!
You mean to tell me you have never seen the epic battle of a lifetime?
Mothra was one of Godzilla's many opponents. Here is a youtube video showcasing the battle between Godzilla and Mothra. Now see what you are missing out on? LOL
I used to watch Godzilla movies as a kid...along with tarzan and studio wrestling. Brings back memories it does.
Hope you are having a great weekend!
Mothra is a monster from Godzilla movies. My 7yr old loves Godzilla, has the toy Mothra and others of Godzilla,, so I know Mothra. She is a really pretty monster actually..
