Addressing The Best & Worst in Depression Any Week: Mental Health & Well Being

  • Hi everyone!


    Well the weekend is upon us already.  I was just thinking that when you suffer from depression, maybe it is just me, but folk don't seem to ask you the simple question of "How are you?" very much.  Maybe they just really don't want to know.  But there is always at least one person who will genuinely ask, "How you doin' today?" and even stay to hear your answer.  And you feel so grateful that the floodgates open and you might even start tearing up.  Had that happen when I was at the supermarket one day.  The check out gal asked me how I was doing and it was one of those days when the tears can come at any moment so I was biting my lip and stammered out, "F-f-fine."  Then she looked concerned and said, "Are you sure?"  And I was gonna be stoic but I let loose with, "No actually I am having a really bad day and I am trying really hard not to start crying in this supermarket but I want to thank you for taking the time to ask me how am I am doing and waiting for an honest answer.  Thank you."   In the time it took me to deliver monologue...the bagger had my groceries ready.

    The clerk smiled and said, "Hey, any time.  I hope you have a better rest of the day." 


    And I did.  You know why?  Someone asked me how I was doing and meant it!


    Now I am going to ask you the same thing.  I think it is really important for people who suffer from depression to have an emotionally safe place to go to talk about how things are really going without fear of having to suck it up and pretend to be fine when you really aren't.  I am hoping that this site is such a place for you. 


    I want to check up on you guys every Friday and assess how the week has gone for you.  We care and we want to know how you are doing.
