Hello Merely Me, Just about surviving day. My computer will be cut off from the Broadband soon as has been hacked and has virus s  so will be emailing from the cyber Cafe and that ll be once a week as cant afford a new Laptop for some time. May get cut off here in middle of sentence as they ll cut me off anytime-

I have heard great things about Zoloft. It doesnt put on weight and doesnt have the awful side effects of the SSRIs. However, when i was put on it, It didnt suit and put me 'thru the roof with anxiety' its not suitable for  v highly strung anxious individuals like me, so that was my experience, took it for a week but couldnt get used to awful panic and also migraines, know alot of people who say its a powerfully good drug.

    Oh no!

Rose we need you!  I hope you can get your computer fixed.  Are there any fixes on-line?  Use a different browser?  Wish we could help you somehow.

I have Zoloft in my cupboard...never ended up taking it.  It is interesting that you say it caused you anxiety.  I hope others chime in and let us know if that was the case for them.  I know some folk say that about Prozac as well...that it made them hyper.

Okay Rose...I will be sending good and healing vibes to your computer cause we need you here.

Thanks for popping on to comment.

I felt kinda cut off from you all. when i got going this evening late, there were so many emails and so many came from this site.    The Efexor withdrawals, are like they say on the tin , horrific, beyond words. Im down to a non therapeutic dose now to stop a crash landing. Im on a tiny dose of Lexapro and will go up a little more in a weeks time.  My hairs feels like its on fire at the roots, nausea, seeing things going past me that arent there ! agitation..aaaahhhh!!  insomnia, dreams, sadness, awful electric shocks [quite common] Well, Im getting there and thanks for all whove written to wish me well. Hello Merely Me and everyone else

I've been on Zoloft twice since being diagnosed with severe depression. The first time I was on it, it worked fantastic!! So, I took it for 5 years. Then it stopped working completely, sort of like I was use to it and it stopped helping me, so the Dr took me off of it. Then I went to something else, which none of those worked. Well, then about a year and a half ago, the Dr put me back on it and it only worked for a short time. I had no weight gain, no anxieties and not much of withdrawal symptoms while going off of it. I would say it was great while I took it the first time, but the second time, it did nothing for me, that's why I'm on a completely different medicine that's doing completely nothing for me. Oh, someday these Drs will get my meds right and I can be myself again, if that's ever going to happen.

Good Luck if you do ever try this medicine, I liked it the first time, but not the second time around.

    Hi MM and all, too,

    1.  What is/was your experience like taking Zoloft?

I was on for many years, at least five.

    2.  How long did it take until it "worked" for you?

Zoloft was a little slow getting up to snuff as I recall. Maybe 5-6 weeks or more.

    3.  What improvements did you notice?

Zoloft is a "quiet" helper, like an artesian well for me. Steady pleasant assist.

    4.  What were the side effects if any?

What was weak for me was a sense of being in a restricted range of emotions: calm but, too calm. Loss of sex drive, some.

    5.  If you quit taking this drug what was the reason?  And did you suffer from withdrawals?

I was taken off Zoloft because I felt incomplete. My doctor recommended Effexor instead. The transition was seamless.

I can see where Zoloft is very effective for some. It helped me to function during a very trying time of my life.

I've only been on it a few weeks, but I'll try to answer the best I can:

    1.  What is/was your experience like taking Zoloft?

So far, mostly I just feel numb, like nothing can get to me.

    2.  How long did it take until it "worked" for you?

At first, I noticed that I was really tired a lot of the time.  Not sure if it's really working yet.

    3.  What improvements did you notice?

So far, I guess I'm a little less depressed than I was.

    4.  What were the side effects if any?

Again, I've mostly just felt numb - nothing, other than that.

I am taking in all the answers so far...and I am wondering if Zoloft is a lot like Prozac.  I will be interested in hearing how things go for you in the weeks to come Judy...I hope you can come back and let us know if the numb feeling remains or dissipates.

Thanks so much for adding to this discussion!

Hey everybody...just wanted to say thanks to everyone who is contributing to this discussion.  I am learning a lot by reading your responses.  It does seem that there are a lot of commonalities of how you all experience taking this medication.

Anyways...thanks again...you are providing such important information to people who need it.

I took it along time ago and it worked well but couldn't sleep at night. So went off it. Then recently went back on it and it did nothing for my depression so I'm now on Pristiq. Took awhile but Pristiq is working well for me so far.

    Hi Merely Me and everyone.

I haven't been able to get on my computer for a few days as it wouldn't work for some reason. Then today it started working again.  I'm glad because I wanted to comment on zoloft as it's been really good for me.

First of all when I started taking it, I had thumping headaches and felt more anxious than normal and was going to stop taking it, but I perservered and the headaches went after about two months, I also had a dry mouth and felt a little bit dizzy as if I was on a boat. that sort of dizziness. I also had palpatations and skipped heartbeats that frightened me a lot, especially as my dad had died from heart problems I spoke to my doctor and she said this was normal, so I perservered and I'm glad I did as I feel a lot better than I did, I wouldn't even leave the house on my own before. I still get down days, but they dont seem to last as much as before and I think a lot more rationally than before. I dont want to feel like I did, and so I'm going to stick with these and hope they keep working.

    1. What is/was your experience like taking Zoloft? Zoloft was the first anti-depressant that I tried so it was a while ago. I know that I was reluctant to try anything and then found it wasn't as bad as I thought. I wasn't on it long though. 2. How long did it take until it "worked" for you? The dose was upped a couple of times but I can't remember what quantity it took before it affected me. When it did my Mum didn't like the side effects so I got off it pretty much straight away after that - so it took maybe a month or so before it really started to affect me. 3. What improvements did you notice? My Mum reckons I was more relaxed. I'm not sure I agree... but that'd be the only possible one. 4. What were the side effects if any? I got all spaced out. So much so that I was all dopey and silly and I dropped my pen and couldn't figure out how to find it. It was sort of like I was high I guess. Mum wanted me off it after that. 5. If you quit taking this drug what was the reason? And did you suffer from withdrawals? Mum wanted me off them - I was 17 or 18 I think and freaked her out. I didn't care cause I didn't really want to take any medication anyway - I felt like I was doing it for her and everyone else that was nagging me not me so if she wanted me off that was fine with me. I don't remember having any side-effects. I think it's a pretty mild drug really.
