Living with Depression and Chronic Pain

By Mark Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Hello, I'm new here and this is my first shared post.

I was taking Wellbutrin, Effexor and Diazepam for Depression plus 3 PST incidents.  At the same time, I was taking slow release Morphine-Sulfate Tablets for Chronic Pain.  My psychiatrist believed that if I could have my pain doctor switch me from Morphine to Marinol, I could be taken off the Wellbutrin and Effexor.  Although, all of these changes which took a couple of months to adjust to seem to be working, other people (primarily my spouse and children) miss the way that I was when I was on Wellbutrin, Effexor, Diazepam, and Morphine.  Should I go back to my old med's to please everyone else? ... even if it winds up making me miserable?

Hi Mark,

No I don't think that you should switch back if the new meds are working for you.

Honestly if you want my opinion NO! I know I hate feeling like a walking zombie , yeah they may miss that but they also need to realize how you feel when you are on the meds, wouldn't it be so easy if we could just reach out and ask god why and in an instant the depression is gone! If only.. If I were you I would NOT get back on the meds, do whatever you need to do to help you .. I hope everything gets better, you are in my prayers.

Thanks Kelly,

you seem to truly understand the side-effects that I'm looking to walk away from.

They (primarily my spouse) missed having a zombie that was easy for her to control.

I like feeling human and being more in control of my life.
