Fourth day on Saphris

By Donna-1 Friday, November 19, 2010

Four doses of Saphris later, I am doing extra-fine.  I'm still working on getting enough sleep.  Mainly need to sleep later in the morning but there are ways to tweak that.  When I get up in the night to go to the bathroom (which I invariably do) I could take the Trazodone then and maybe sleep longer.

But the increase in energy is amazing.  I knew Zyprexa made me feel much better mentally...but left me zapped physically.  I took at least 2 naps a day.  But [so far] the Saphris is giving me both mental and physical stamina.  Too early to make a judgment call, but so far it is the best I've ever done switching to a new antipsychotic.  I am hoping it will keep the depression at bay like Zyprexa.  None of the nervousness I had with Abilify and Geodon.  In one day, I'm accomplishing as much as I did in a week before.  And it isn't mania or even hypomania.  I feel very much at peace.

My sister highlighted my hair last night and it also gives me a new lift, a boost to my self-confidence.  My natural hair is dark brown but the blonde highlights go better with my complexion (fair).  I like it.  I like me...and that is saying a lot.

Keep your fingers crossed that the Saphris works and that I will be able to get a little more sleep.  Even just an hour or two more would do the trick.

This is all good news Donna.  I hope that the good effects from this drug continues.  I guess you never know until you try something as to how it will really be.  How about your appetite?  Does it seem the same or less?  The energy increase sounds like a really good plus.

Your hair sounds pretty!  That is always a nice lift to have your hair done.  Going lighter also has the advantage of making you look younger and brightening your face.

Sounds like things are falling into place for you.  Thanks for sharing all this good stuff.  I hope it continues.

THANK GOD my appetite has returned to its pre-Zyprexa norm.  Now I am only hungry when I'm SUPPOSED to be hungry, not 24x7.

I'm not putting all my chicks in the basket just yet -- I tried another antipsychotic once that was good for 3 weeks then went south.  But I don't have any sign that will happen this time.  I am not hearing voices and neither am I depressed.  All is going well.  Maybe I can get on with my life now and be healthier because of the switch.

Thank you for your encouragement.
