God bless us, everyone.
My original thought for you, stolen from Tiny Tim. :)
I got what I wanted for Christmas, almost.
I truly hope you did.

Merry Christmas to you, too, Paul - although it is almost over, but this is my first free moment today. I'm wiped out! My son and family were able to come this morning for breakfast and opening presents. We gave my grandson an Elmo laptop "computer" and he LOVES Elmo and pretty soon he was trying to talk back to Elmo in the same squeaky voice. After they left, I was getting dinner ready for some others of my family who came (9 of us alltogether) and now I just want to crash.
Glad you had a nice one but of course now I'm curious as to what it was you almost got that you wanted! I think this is maybe the first time I've seen you post! Good night and God bless!
Thank you, Judy!
Wow..., you are sharp and observant. It is indeed, my first attempt at a sharepost, done on a holiday as you needn't say much about yourself, just wish everyone happiness and peace among other fine gifts we all need a bit more.
Well who doesn't like Elmo? I could almost sing the theme song for Elmo's World right now. It's not easy to duplicate his voice. I'm sure your grandson did a better job than I could; though I have tried some few times. Now Donald Duck...
Can't say what I almost got for Christmas! But if I ever do, and like Linus in the Pumpkin Patch, I fervently hope and believe I will, I shall tell you all about it. Right here, in a sharepost! Which may be my second of all time. I'm rather uninteresting but good at wishing joyful holidays to others. :)
Thank you for the blessing and right back at ya! I'm glad you had what sounds like a fine Christmas Day.
Happy Holidays Paul, Nice to see you did a Sharepost. I agree, that questionaire on Fruitcake would be interesting. Is that why they call people 'Fruitcakes'? Well, I have a confession to make, I adore Fruitcake. I dont eat sweet things throughout the year and Ive never made a fruitcake in my life. If im offered a slice, I'll devour it. So thats one Depression with Anxiety Disorder and PTSD that loves Fruitcake. The Survey starts here... Blessings from IReland which is an open air Fruitcake land. Well Brendan Behan [our renowned playwright and writer] described Ireland as an 'Open air Asylum' so how many others out there on the site love Fruitcake ?
Rose, Happy Holidays to you also! You sound in great form, keep it up!
Rose and Judy,
Look, I hate to phrase it this way, but it seems the score for The Question of The Week so far, is:
Two fruitcakes and two non-fruitcakes.
And yes, Rose, in America the label of fruitcake for a person, indicates one may wish to take a wide berth of one so labeled. In my own doubtful book, a person willing to eat fruitcake should be given a very wide berth! Apparently fruitcakes have nuts in them because the term I remember is, "they're as nutty as a fruitcake."
I don't doubt they have everything in them, some things still unknown.
You say, Rose, that you never made a fruitcake? Till now, I thought they just, grew somewhere, like in Borneo, or The Falklands. :) People collected them, aged them for decades, then shipped them off for people to give relatives they don't like, but feel obligated to give them something on certain holidays.
But you two are likable, and are poking holes in that theory. Well, if I get any, I know who to regift them to, the following year. :) Enjoy!
Paul!
You totally crack me up. I am one who loathes the fruit cake. What are those horrible red and green things? Green things in food makes me think of mold. I just can't do it.
I did receive a fruit cake this holiday. And sadly I did dispense of it. But I did try it first and it did reaffirm for me in a big way that I do not like them.
Now how about eggnog? Surprisingly...this is something I do like!
Exactly, Merely Me! You hit upon the object of fascination and, I hate to offend anyone, :) but revulsion too!
What are those things in the cake and can anyone prove it? I mean, there is so much suspect, that I would think absolute trust must be gained before convincing someone to bite into the concoction. My parents never gained such trust from me, and while I told my kids often to try something because it was good, I never said a word to them about fruitcake.
You are right, those red and green things, and the suspicious, drab material of various sizes, all through the cake, make you take a step back whether Simon says to, or not. It's called survival instinct, I think.
Funny you mention eggnog, which I've never had either, because my grandchild asked generally, yesterday, what is eggnog?
I said I know there must be eggs in there and something called, Nog. Whether it is plant, animal or mineral, or alien, I could not tell her. I'm loathe to read the label or Google it, seems too easy. Wonder where they grow Nog?
Hi, Paul - this is a little late, but I think Nog grows in the Caribbean - we know it as RUM!! REAL eggnog has rum in it. My grandma used to make that, too - yes, egg nog and fruitcake - how high can you fly??? Maybe that's how people got themselves to eat fruitcake? Now, there is nothing bad in fruitcake - dried fruit, flour, butter, tons of sugar. It's just that some of that dried fruit is stuff we're not familiar with so much but it is real food, honest.
Hope you enjoy the rest of what's left of the week-end. I'm still not dressed and it feels great!
Okay, Judy, this is where everyone finds out how gullible I am, and I believe you when you say there are Nogs growing some place in this world. Because I watch a lot of documentaries and have yet to see one on people farming Nogs somewhere.
On the other hand, we must get Rum from something. I'm a little sad now, if that is in eggnog and I've missed it all these years, although I have made rum and cokes happy a few times, or vice versa. Even rum and cake! Without all that strange stuff in it!
Ha! I think you've hit on the secret of fruitcake consumption, one must get inebriated first, to eat it, or make it.
Perhaps that was Grandma's secret of her own. :) And how it came to be that so many strange looking things were thrown in the mix. A point is reached, like Lucille Ball used to demonstrate, when following a recipe doesn't matter anymore.
Thank for the good weekend wishes, if you're not dressed by now, let it slide till tomorrow! It's Christmas!
Hiyah Paul!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you!
Thank you so much for dropping by and sending us good tidings and well wishes. And thank you too for being my fiftieth commenter on yesterday's post. I wish there were some sort of prize available. How about that fruit cake I refuse to eat? Does anyone like fruitcake? Someone must if they keep making them.
You have a wonderful day!
Thank you!
Somewhere, someone is eating fruitcake. I just know it's not me.
So you can hang to that treasure for another year! It's probably the one I kept seeing at our Christmas's when I was young, and it has been circulating since, or one just like it.
Just, if you're going to offer it as a prize next year, I wouldn't tell anyone then, either. :)
Might be a Question of The Week, pure research.
Do people who eat fruitcake suffer depression? Could be a scientific breakthrough if we can establish some correlation. We may all need to start eating it. Nah, I'll stay depressed. :)
You had two lively days of chat going for your inaugural year. That was kind of you to give of your time from your family. Hope the Holiday Week is peaceful for everyone here.
